Blossom Room Blog....
Hello family and friends,
This week in Cherry Blossom room we have been making banana bread. We have been using big movements to mix, stir and pour all of the ingredients. Later in the day the children ate the banana bread at snack time.
This week in Blossom room we have been making playdough requested by the children. They were so excited of getting involved. we also reinforced the process of making by baking banana bread and and ate it at snack time.
This week Blossom room and Palm room have joined together to take part in the 30 days of nature activities. The children collected twigs and sticks for the jungle garden. The children also enjoyed collecting leaves, mud and sticks for the bug hotel. We did a community litter pick and cleaned the area. We had fun watering the plants. The weather has been so good, we had lunch outside. It has been a great and busy week.
This week was ‘reading week’. The children enjoyed looking at lots of different books from rhyme books from recipe books. They did this independently, with friends, in groups, with adults, indoors and outdoors. The children also enjoyed a range of activities linked to books such as making telescopes linked the book ‘Shark in the park’, looking for bugs linked to the book ‘Bug hunt’ and of course the children continued to talk about our snails linked to the book ‘Slow snail’.
After sharing the story ‘Slow snail’ we have been hunting for snails all week outside. We have been looking high and low, under things, on top of things and we even used magnifying glasses to help. Sadly we couldn’t find any, but we did find spiders, ladybirds and worms. Luckily for us today Cathy found 2 snails in her garden and brought them in to nursery for us to look at. We collected leaves, mud and twigs for the snails and made them a new home. We spent time observing how they move around and watched as they left trails of slime behind them. We then looked on the iPad at different kinds of snails and we also found out what snails like to eat. Here are lots of pictures of the fun we had, maybe you could go on a snail hunt in your garden, the park or on your journey to nursery, we would love to see some photographs on tapestry if you do.
Last week in Apple Blossom we shared a story called ‘Slow snail’. In the story the snail made lots of different patterns on his journey, he went over, under and through things. We then copied the snail by making our own patterns using different mark making tools such as crayons, pencils and felt tip pens. We also went on a snail hunt but sadly we couldn’t find any. Maybe you could look for snails when you’re out and about.
The babies are settling really well into Cherry Blossom and are beginning to explore the environment both indoors and outdoors more independently.
Eid Mubarak to all our children and families who are celebrating this very special day. This week we are sharing some photographs of the cupcakes we made to celebrate Eid.
